HÀ NỘI – Animals Asia said it has successfully rescued a moon bear that had been kept in a cage for more than 一0 years.
The rescue was conducted in coordination with the Forest Management Department of the Central Highlands Province of Lâm Đồng.
The bear was voluntarily handed over to the organisation by Đam B’ri Tourism Joint Stock Company, which once raised 二0 bears and other wild animals at its ecological resort. The animals have died over the years.
Earlier, the bear had been cared for, tagged with a microchip and registered at a household in HCM city in 二00 五.
After its rescue, the bear was named Bảo Lâm, which means protecting the forest in Vietnamese. The name is derived from combining Bảo Lộc and Lâm Đồng, the names of local areas.
Bảo Lâm will be transported to the organisation’s Bear Rescue Centre in Vĩnh Phúc Province’s Tam Đảo National Park. There, he will be taken care of and rehabilitated before being shifted to an outdoor enclosure with other rescued bears.
